STOP LABORS TOWERS NEWSLETTER – July 21st 2024
TO THOSE WHO SEEK TO STEAL, PILLAGE AND DESTROY OUR LAND
The following sentiments in one way or another have been shared with me many times over the past four years by community members in Western Victoria who are impacted by the proposed “Towers of Death and Destruction” and they embody what many are fighting for.
I was born on this land, just like my father before me, and his father before him. The rich soil of Western Victoria isn’t just beneath my feet; it flows through my veins. Every morning, as I step out onto my property, I feel a connection that city folk could never understand.
This land, you see, isn’t just my livelihood—it’s my life. I can read the earth like you’d read a newspaper. I know when she’s thirsty, when she’s content, and when she needs a rest. My hands have worked this soil for decades, and in return, she’s provided for me and my family.
But don’t think for a second that I’m just here to take. I’m a guardian of this land. Every decision I make, from the crops I plant to the natural environment I nurture, is about maintaining the delicate balance of nature. I’ve implemented sustainable practices that would make city environmentalists’ heads spin. Why? Because I understand that our future depends on keeping this land healthy.
Let me tell you something: if anyone tries to come between me and this land, they’ve got another thing coming. This isn’t just about property rights or making a living. This land is part of who I am. It’s my heritage, my responsibility, and my legacy.
Over the past four years, I’ve seen suits and thugs espousing lies about the renewable transition and their so-called “progressive” projects. They don’t understand or care. They are driven by greed, not progress. I see generations of history, a complex ecosystem, and a way of life worth protecting and preserving.
So, when they come with their fleet of white vehicles, their aggressive thugs, their deceitful investigators, and their regulations, they’re met with resistance. It’s not aggression, mind you. It’s determination. It’s the unwavering resolve of someone protecting not just their property, but their very identity.
This land and I, we’re one and the same. You can’t separate us any more than you can separate the sky from the earth. And I’ll be damned if I let anyone try. This is my home, my responsibility, and my life. And I’ll protect it with everything I’ve got.

17 DAYS UNTIL SUPREME COURT APPEAL
We are now just 17 days away from the legal Appeal in the Supreme Court. We, the Regional Victoria Power Alliance (Alliance) that represents communities impacted by the WRL and VNI West, are still seeking everyone’s assistance to fully fund by August 7th this critical action – thank you to those of you who’ve already contributed recently.
To recap, in February and May 2023 Lily D’Ambrosio stepped in as Victorian Energy Minister to takeover – by her Ministerial Order decrees – the WRL and VNI West megaproject, which included uprating the size of the WRL from 220kV to 500kV from Mt Prospect 110km west to Bulgana. We as the Alliance challenged the validity of these Orders at trial in the Supreme Court in September 2023, and received judgement in December 2023 dismissing our case. We as the Alliance have appealed this decision on advice from our legal team that we have reasonable prospects to overturn this judgement and to therefore quash these Ministerial orders – a decision we won’t know for some months after the August 7th appeal hearing.
As we all know, the Victorian and Federal government are increasingly desperate and hell bent on ramming the WRL and VNI West mega project through. We hear constant murmurings of slight route changes, and the latest is that Lily and co are now attempting to bribe neighbours of the proposed line with measly compensation payments. As we also know, new transmission powerlines are the honeypot that the Government, AusNet, AEMO and foreign energy companies hope will ultimately enable carpeting of rural Victoria with renewables – watch out for Vicgrid’s upcoming Victorian Transmission Plan.  The WRL and VNI West mega project is and always has been a bad idea and it must be stopped.
There is no ulterior motive here from our legal team or the Alliance. Alongside all the efforts many are making for the fight, this is about doing what we can only do together on the key legal front, doing what is right, and in this case, quashing the Orders we expect will invalidate the legal authority for the WRL and VNI West, which cannot be easily remedied – creating a huge mess and hopefully a key nail in the coffin.
