The Moorabool and Central Highlands Power Alliance is taking our fight to Daylesford
Stop AusNet’s Towers supports renewable energy, supports action on climate change and supports the environment. A GREEN generation solution requires a GREEN transmission solution. Using out-dated, inferior and destructive overhead electricity transmission technology is NOT in Australia’s strategic national interest, nor cost-effective. Above ground transmission infrastructure is not a future proof solution and AusNet, AEMO and the government are green washing this project.
Our voices need to be heard. We must be brave and speak our truth.
TRANSMISSION TOWERS COLLAPSE IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA
The incident was sparked on Saturday afternoon when severe storms swept through the state, and a fallen transmission tower near Tailem Bend caused both circuits on a 275kV transmission line to trip, separating the state’s grid at 4.40pm (AEST) from the rest of the National Electricity Market.

An issue the Alliance and community members have been raising with AusNet, AEMO and Government is the susceptibility of the proposed transmission towers to high winds. Last week in South Australia more high voltage transmission towers collapsed causing significant damage and outages. Transmission towers also collapsed back in 2020 in Cressy, Victoria, https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-02-01/wild-weather-victoria-continues-across-victoria/11920502
Currently numerous houses sit in very close proximity (some within a few meters) of the proposed dangerous 85m high towers, meaning a collapsed tower will crush homes and take lives.
AusNet’s indifference to this significant safety issue wreaks of their ignorance and arrogance. Ploughing forward with this highly unsafe and risky project will ultimately cause loss of life to our community.
Placing these structures close to dwellings is deplorable. Do those planning this project from their desks in Melbourne see the blood on their hands?
This project in its proposed form must not proceed.
