We are taking our fight to the Streets of Ballarat.

The “Stop AusNet’s Towers Winter Rally” will converge on Ballarat on Friday July 15^th .

Steve Curry, actor, comedian and star of Australia’s iconic movie The Castle will join the Stop AusNet’s Towers Campaign and head the convoy of vehicles descending upon Ballarat’s CBD.

Bring your vehicles for the vehicle convoy or come on foot.

IMPORTANT – If You plan on bringing a vehicle please contact Cate Lancashire as she needs to log all vehicles participating in the convoy.

Tractors, ute’s, semi-loaders, cars, bicycles to form our convoy around Ballarat ending at Lydiard Street for speeches. The vehicle convoy will begin at Ballarat Airport and make it’s way to Lydiard Street which will be blocked off between Sturt and Mair Streets for our convoy to park.

Start making your banners and thinking about how you will dress up your vehicles.

8:30 am – 10:30 am: Vehicles can access Ballarat Airport parking
10.30 am: Vehicle Convoy departs Ballarat Airport
12.30 pm: If your coming on foot arrive at Lydiard Street.

1:00 pm: Formal speaking at Lydiard Street commences.

Fifth-generation Newlyn potato farmer and chairman of the Kingston and District Power Alliance, Kain Richardson, said the VNI West would be two 500kV transmission lines that would connect to the Western Renewables link to deliver power into Melbourne.

“We’ll be right on the fringe of the VNI West,” he said.

“More prime agricultural land is going to be affected by this — and not only that, but local tourism industries are going to suffer severe consequences.”

Social licence cannot be bought, it must be earned.

Community opposition to the current process is not about blocking the transition to renewables; it is about doing it right.

By not accounting for cumulative impacts and disbenefits associated with transmission, we risk undermining economic values derived from regional communities and from the environment.

Energy regulators have an opportunity to develop transmission policy relating to setbacks, resilience, environmental protection, and to adopt an innovative community guided approach that seeks to mitigate socio-economic and environmental impacts and expedite project delivery. Developing and adopting this framework will streamline infrastructure investment, will unlock investment in renewables and will increase the overall net benefit to Victorian economy and energy consumers.
